France: Air traffic controllers expected to strike countrywide

09. October 2013

The strike action is expected to commence at 04:00 local time; operations are set to normalise from 18:00. The French civil aviation authority, DGCA, has requested that both regional and international airlines reduce their flight schedules by 10 percent at Paris's Charles de Gaulle, Orly and Paris Beauvais Tille airports as well as at airports in Bordeaux, Brest, Marseille and Reims. The strike action has been organised in protest against the restructuring and consolidation of Europe's airspace management system, as proposed by the European Commission.  Clients intending to conduct air travel through France on 10 October should prepare for significant disruptions; clients should contact their airline or travel provider to confirm the status of services and, potentially, to adjust their travel plans. Furthermore, clients intending to make use of air transport services in Europe in the short-term are advised to monitor local media for announcements related to possible future strike action. (red)
