Azerbaijan Airlines introduces new service at Vienna Airport

Vienna Airport welcomes a new airline to its location: Azerbaijan Airlines has been connecting Vienna and Baku twice a week since May 2023. The flag carrier of Azerbaijan now links the two capital cities of Vienna and Baku every Tuesday and Friday. The flight time between Vienna and Baku is approximately three and a half hours. Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, is located directly on the Caspian Sea and offers modern metropolitan flair and a medieval fortified old town.

Swiss expands short- and medium-haul network

In the upcoming winter season, Swiss will offer a choice of 68 destinations from Zurich and Geneva. With the announcement of the 2023/24 winter flight schedule, Swiss reveals an expansion compared to the previous year. They will introduce four new destinations and increase the frequency of selected routes. From Zurich, Swiss passengers will have a total of 63 destinations to choose from on the short- and medium-haul network. Swiss will resume flights to Bremen, with four weekly flights. Furthermore, Swiss will increase the number of flights to various German cities compared to the previous winter season. They will add six weekly flights to Düsseldorf, four flights to Hamburg, and two flights to Hanover. Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic, and Bucharest, the capital of Romania, will also see increased service with seven and five additional flights per week, respectively. Swiss will have particularly frequent flights to Berlin (52 flights per week), Barcelona (28 flights per week), Amsterdam (28 flights per week), and Athens (19 flights per week). Portugal will be a focus of the winter flight program, with Swiss operating 14 flights per week to the capital city of Lisbon and up to 11 flights to the northwestern coastal city of Porto. From Geneva, Swiss will offer its passengers a diverse flight program with 21 destinations on the short- and medium-haul network. Travelers will have a wide range of flights to London, Lisbon, Porto, and Athens. The recently introduced route to Hamburg will continue, with Swiss flying to the northern German port city four times per week.

With Ethiopian Airlines from Vienna to Copenhagen

Since May 22, 2023, Ethiopian Airlines has increased the frequency of flights between Addis Ababa and Vienna to six weekly flights. Furthermore, the connection between Vienna and Copenhagen is maintained (Mon, Wed, Fri, Sat), requiring passengers to present a passport as this flight operates as a Non-Schengen flight. Ethiopian Airlines departs for Copenhagen around 7:00 am every morning and returns to Vienna on the same day at around 9:00 pm.

Emirates complimentary connectivity

All Skywards members enjoy a form of complimentary connectivity: Regardless of membership status (Blue, Silver, Gold, or Platinum) or travel class (Economy, Premium Economy, Business, or First), guests receive complimentary access to WhatsApp, Messenger, and other text messaging services. Skywards members in First Class also have unlimited complimentary internet access, allowing them to work during the flight, just like Silver or Gold members traveling in Business Class. Platinum members have complimentary internet access in all classes.

Finnair introduces new baggage rules for carry-on and checked bags

Starting June 1st, Finnair will change its baggage allowance policy. Business Class travelers, both on European and long-haul flights, will have a decreased carry-on and checked baggage allowance. For tickets purchased on or after June 1st, the Business Class carry-on baggage allowance is limited to one small bag (40x30x15cm) and one carry-on (55x40x23cm) with a maximum weight of 8kg. For tickets purchased on or after June 1st, regardless of the ticket type or travel class (including Business Class), only one piece of standard-sized and weighted checked baggage is allowed. The maximum weight for a standard-sized checked bag is 23kg, with dimensions of 90x75x45cm. Bags exceeding the weight limit of a standard 23kg bag (up to 32kg) or sporting equipment such as golf bags or skis must be purchased as a travel extra. Sporting equipment can no longer be checked in as part of the standard baggage allowance but must be purchased separately. Baggage allowances for Finnair-operated journeys to/from Japan, China, and the USA remain unchanged (2PC or 3PC, 32kg each). However, the smaller cabin baggage allowance mentioned above also applies to/from Japan and the USA when the flight is operated by Finnair. Additionally, Finnair Plus Silver, Gold, Platinum, and Platinum Lumo members will experience some minor changes to their baggage benefits based on their tier status: Superlight ticket travelers who are top-tier members (Silver, Gold, Platinum, or Platinum Lumo) are entitled to a complimentary carry-on bag. Finnair Plus Silver members receive a 50% discount on one extra standard-sized checked bag (max. 23kg). Finnair Plus Gold, Platinum, and Platinum Lumo members enjoy one extra standard-sized checked bag for free (max. 23kg). Finnair Plus Platinum and Platinum Lumo members can also check in one special-sized sports equipment bag for free.

British Airways resumes flights to mainland China

Starting April 23, 2023, daily flights will be available from London Heathrow to Shanghai once again. In addition, from June 3, 2023, there will be four weekly flights from London Heathrow to Beijing. With Lufthansa to Boston and New York

Starting from June 1, 2023, Lufthansa will resume its flight operations with the Airbus A380 after a three-year hiatus. Flights will depart from Munich and fly daily to Boston. And from July 4, 2023, there will be a daily flight to New York. With the reactivation of the Airbus A380, Lufthansa will expand its premium offering from Munich, particularly with additional seats in Business and First Class.

New destinations with Austrian Airlines

Austrian Airlines is expanding its short-haul network and offering seven new destinations in the summer flight schedule of 2023. Along with established destinations and a densified Europe program, completely new to the program are flights to Porto, Marseille, Billund, and Tivat. The Sicilian city of Palermo has also been added to the regular summer flight schedule, while the connection to Vilnius is being offered again. Austrian airline offers flights to all new destinations up to three times a week. To the Norwegian city of Tromsø, there is a weekly flight during the summer between June and August.

Air France summer flight schedule

Air France has released details of its summer flight schedule for 2023, including more flights to Asia, North America, and East Africa. Air France will gradually increase flights to Beijing, Shanghai, and Hong Kong, with a daily flight per destination by July 1st. The airline will also increase capacity to Tokyo to 11 weekly flights to Haneda and three to Narita. Air France will also add more flights to North America and will introduce a new route from Paris-Charles de Gaulle to Ottawa starting from May 27th, 2023. Additionally, Air France will fly to new destinations such as Dar Es Salaam in Tanzania, with three weekly flights continuing to Zanzibar, and Johannesburg in South Africa. Finally, in the Caribbean, Air France will inaugurate a new flight on May 5, 2023, linking Cayenne (French Guiana) and Belém (Brazil), once a week.

From Munich to Tokyo with ANA

ANA is resuming its flights from Munich to Tokyo-Haneda after a three-year hiatus. The route will initially be operated three times a week. In recent months, ANA has only been represented in Munich through a codeshare agreement with its joint venture partner, Lufthansa. Prior to the coronavirus pandemic, there were four daily flights from Germany to Tokyo – twice from Frankfurt, once from Munich, and once from Düsseldorf. ANA is responding to the high demand for flights to Japan and hopes to be able to fly daily from Munich to Tokyo again soon.
